The gold Britannia coin has been in production since 1987, and quickly become the UK's favourite bullion investment coin. To offer increased flexibility, and low entry of cost, the Royal Mint has regularly produced smaller denominations of the Britannia; including the Half, Quarter and Tenth Britannias. Some of these are rare coins, that collectors send to be graded in order to certify their quality. This is carried out by professional companies, such as the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) or the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).
