The New Zealand Mint was founded in 1967, and has continued producing bullion coins and bars for four decades. The New Zealand is privately owned, and the only precious metal mint in the country. New Zealand's circulating currency is instead struck by the Royal Canadian Mint.
The New Zealand Mint often refers to itself as the "minters of the South Pacific"; a reference to the company's clientele, which features a number of pacific nations, including Fiji and Tuvalu. Its offices are based in Auckland, a the country's largest city, located on the North Island of New Zealand.
